After completion of the 2019 National Junior A Championship the Royal Bank Cup Trophy was retired. It currently resides in the Hockey Hall Of Fame in Toronto. https://www.hhof.com/thecollection/historictrophies.html - info provided by Izak Westgate - Hockey Hall of Fame
As Canada's National Junior A Championship prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in May in Portage la Prairie, Man., Hockey Canada, in partnership with the CJHL, has announced that Canada's National Junior A Championship will return to its original name - the Centennial Cup and a new trophy - starting in 2020. Officialy it will be called the Centennial Cup, presented by Tim Hortons.
For the 2023 tournament Hockey Canada had droped the "presented by Tim Hortons" moniker as Tim Hortons withdrew its sponsorship in response to the Hockey Canada sexual assault scandal. Tim Horton has subsequently re-instated their sponsorship for 2024.
The National Junior A Championship, is an annual ice hockey competition that determines the Canadian Junior A champion. It is played under the supervision of Hockey Canada and the Canadian Junior Hockey League.
From my obserations of the new Centennial Cup, the new trophy contains elements of previous national championship trophies.
I do not see any elements in the new trophy that are in any way reminiscent to the Centennial Cup trophy used from 1990 to 1996.
The Road to the Centennial Cup includes 118 teams in nine leagues - from Canmore to Flin Flon to Campbellton. The leagues include Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL), Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL), Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL), Ligue de hockey junior AAA du Quebec (LHJAAAQ) and Maritime Hockey League (MHL).
All nine member league champions of the CJHL plus a Host will play for the National Championship, Centennial Cup, which will involve a Preliminary Round, 2 Quartefinals, 2 Semifinals and a Final.
