Gordon Pister

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Gordon Pister of Vernon, age 78, at Kelowna General Hospital on August 4, 2025 after a stroke. Gord was born in Victoria, BC on November 20, 1946. He was predeceased by his father Edmund Pister and mother Doris Pister (nee Campbell) of Victoria.

After leaving school, Gord entered the Canadian Armed Forces. He was very proud to be with the PPCLI Airborne, serving in western Canada and Germany. He gained many skills, including drinking, smoking, and heavy vehicle operation. His driving skills led to a 27 year career with Dairyland as a driver/salesman. In 1980 he transferred to Kelowna where he met the love of his life, Debi. They made a life together with their sons for 43 years in Kelowna and Vernon.

Gord loved sports of all kinds. It was a family joke that he would watch 6-year olds playing grass hockey if that was the only sport on the air. He was a regular spectator at his sons' and grandchildren's sporting activities, always cheering them on with the loudest voice there, much to their chagrin. Gord was a dedicated Vipers fan, and spent many seasons volunteering at the rink.

Gord enjoyed travel. The trip of hislife wasthis past March toToronto with hisson, Gordie, where he attended a Maple Leafs game and three Blue Jays games, exercising his cheering skills yet again. He was thrilled that he had the opportunity to meet commentator Buck Martinez, whose career with the Jays he had followed for many years.

Gord is survived by his loving wife Debi, son Don (Mandy), son Gordie (Nicole), step-son lan (Mel) and step-daughter Carolyn (Geoff). He leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His is sorely missed by his canine sweetheart, Moka.

Per Gord's request, the celebration of life will be a small, family-only affair.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Society or the BC Stroke Foundation.

The song is ended, but the memories carry on
